The Cast

The Last Resort was originally written for a cast of just twelve, depicting a much larger number of characters through the use of multiple role playing. There was an equal number of males and females. The play would also work with a cast of ten or even if you wanted a real challenge - a cast of just four males or females taking on all the roles. I've never seen it done with this small a number so if you have a go - let me know!

The oldest swingers in town?

This couple aren't in The Last Resort - but they could be!

Some groups have chosen to forego the multiple role playing and take the opportunity to use lots of people in the cast. This  is a good opportunity to involve lots students. It also gives more opportunity to use character specific costume as this is not really possible if taking the multiple role playing route. The published version is written for just such an approach.

With so many characters mentioned obviously you can also use a combination of multiple and single roles

Whenever I have directed The Last Resort I have always used multiple role playing. If you take this option and have trouble dividing up the roles drop me a line and I will try to help.

Below is a list of all the indiividual characters in the play  in their order of appearance (left column first).

As you can see, there are well over 50 roles available - so choose the approach most suited to your needs. Although some of these roles are "gender specific" many can be interpreted effectively by the opposite gender. Having two females play the roles of the bouncers can be really effective.
